Woman Sentenced to Death in Tamale

A 22-year-old woman has been sentenced to death by hanging by the Tamale High Court. A five-member jury convicted trader, Zeila Sulemana for murder.
The jury unanimously pronounced Zeila guilty of murder; she stabbed a nursing student, Rawdia Aminu in the abdomen and chest at Lamashegu in the Northern region.

The two were involved in an argument over a boy [Alhassan Abdul-Rahman]. Alhassan happened to be a boyfriend to Rawdia and an ex-boyfriend also to Zeila.

The prosecutor of the case, Mr Salia Qudus narrated to the court that the two ladies were involved in a heated conversation about Alhassan, leading to the stabbing of Aminu in her chest and abdomen and eventual death.

Even though Ghana has not undertaken any execution since 1993, the number of death sentences as at 2015, was 18.
